Coaching
Hi, I’m Rachel. I love supporting kids and their families!
I have 15 years’ experience which includes: teaching in the public school system, leading groups for at-risk youth, and providing in-home aide support for children with special needs.
As a teacher I worked in schools with Art Centered and Inquiry Based Learning frameworks, so I understand the value of art and hands-on learning activities. As a group facilitator, I created a curriculum which taught social / emotional skills to at-risk youth using creative strategies. As an Aide, I integrated speech, sensory and behaviour goals into the child’s preferred activities.
I have experience supporting children and youth with a variety of needs, including: learning disabilities, giftedness, ADHD, Autism, Sensory Processing Disorder, Oppositional Defiance Disorder, Anxiety, Trauma and Depression. I have also provided support / coaching to youth struggling with bullying, peer conflict, loneliness, blended families, identity, self-esteem and emotional regulation.
Currently, I work with children aged 7 – 13 and specialize in Autism Spectrum Disorder, Sensory Processing Disorder and Anxiety. I support children and families who struggle with social skills, emotional self-regulation, behaviour difficulties, activity transition, and daily routines. I build on a child’s natural interests and strengths, and often incorporate creative arts, play and sensory based tools and strategies. I can provide these services privately, and for families receiving FSCD funding.

I have experience as a community aide assisting youth with a physical disability, and I have provided volunteer personal training support to youth enrolled in the “Beast Mode” Fitness program.
The “Beast Mode” Fitness First Experience is an exercise program for youth with autism who want to learn how to become more physically active in their lives. The program provides guided support to help individuals learn about personal fitness, health and well-being.
I also have volunteer experience in cross-cultural outreach and support for individuals with multiple physical and / or mental health challenges.
